Portuguese Association of Ankylosing Spondylitis

On 5 May, Silvestre Festas contributed to the World Ankylosing Spondylitis Day supporting the Portuguese Association of Ankylosing Spondylitis (ANEA) with a tent to accommodate the celebrations.

The main goal of the ANEA is medical, social, and educational support and the promotion and provision of healthcare to patients suffering from this disease and other spondyloarthropathies. Its scope of action extends to the entire national territory (mainland and autonomous regions).
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease that affects the spinal joints, including the sacroiliac and sometimes peripheral joints.
The usual onset age is between the second and third decade of life.
The most common symptom is back pain that worsens with rest and weakens with physical activity.
